9th Grade Cohort Program

Start earning college credit.

The 9th Grade Cohort Program at Baker Early College helps students build the skills they need to thrive as early college students in grades 10–12. This cohort develops strong college readiness habits — including self-management, academic skills, and confidence navigating a college environment — all while earning high school and college credit.

9th Grade Goals

This year is all about getting a head start on high school and college. You will:

  • Build self-management and college-readiness skills
  • Get a real feel for the college pace and workload
  • Earn up to 18 college credits while earning the high school credit you need to stay on track for your diploma
Weekly Schedule

Each 11-week quarter, you’ll take 4–6 courses designed to keep your diploma on track — a mix of high school credit and dual credit courses that count for both high school and college. And don’t worry — you’ll move through them alongside your cohort, so you’re never going it alone.

Your Success Hub

Advisory is where you build the skills to thrive: study habits, organization, planning, and getting college-ready. Each week, you’ll set goals, plan your schedule, and tackle skill-building assignments. And every Wednesday, the whole cohort meets online for 90 minutes to connect, learn together, and level-up your habits.

Your Courses

All your classes will be online, a combination of high school and dual-credit coursework. With Baker Early College’s expert teachers guiding you, you’ll have the support you need to succeed — every step of the way.

9th Grade Program FAQ

The Wednesday morning Zoom meetings are required. Although it is allowable to occasionally miss with prior notice to your advisory teacher, content must be made up at a later date. Each Monday and Tuesday, students have one online assignment due, while the majority of each week’s work is due on Friday or Sunday at 11:59pm.

It depends on the community college. If your local college doesn’t allow students under 16 to enroll, you can start with online courses from another Oregon community college that fits your needs.

Our 9th grade curriculum focuses on progress towards high school diploma completion; electives aren’t our focus. Starting in 10th grade, students have a much wider selection of electives to choose from at their college of choice.

No problem! Whether it’s a family trip, sports event, or illness, you can take a week off. Just make sure to complete your work before you leave or catch up when you return. Pro tip: let your instructors know as early as you can!

We recommend sticking with the courses we’ve carefully chosen for you. Each 9th grade class is designed to build skills, cover prerequisites, or fulfill particular high school diploma requirements. Switching around can slow your progress, create frustration, and even risk losing credit.
